There are many important events and activities occurring through the end of the year. It is important to check backpacks and planners daily and to stay tuned for important messages so your kids don’t miss out. Instruction is ongoing and attendance is crucial to finishing projects and preparing students for their grade level transitions

On Wednesday, April 25th 3rd through 8th grade students will be taking part in an environmental learning field trip to Rices Crossing Preserve, part of the Bear Yuba Land Trust on the other side of Bullards Bar Reservoir. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to find out how to become stewards of our local lands. To quote their mission statement, “Bear Yuba Land Trust exists to create a balance between nature and the needs of the people who make a life and a livelihood here. This is our home. Our mission is to enrich the deep community connection with our land – today, tomorrow and forever.”

Family Learning Night, hosted by the Camptonville School Site Council, takes place this Thursday, April 26th. Don’t forget to RSVP by tomorrow, Monday, April 23 if you would like to order food! Pizza and salad will be available at 5 for those who have ordered ahead, and students will be presenting their chosen subject matter at 5:30. There will be a short (I promise) survey to fill out before having sundaes, and there will be information available about new programs and offerings for the 2018-19 school year.

I will be previewing acts for students who are planning to perform in this year’s talent show this Friday, April 27th right after school. Students need to have their music and props that day in order to stay. If you are only modeling trash fashion, you should not stay. Children must be picked up by 3:45.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

March 2018 certainly came in like a lion, keeping us guessing as to what the sky would actually bring, but it looks like the weather for the week ahead is going to settle down and be more spring-like!

Circumstances last week lead me once again to give thanks for our wonderful community resources. Camptonville’s Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Forest Service and departments from our surrounding communities, bravely worked to protect the town of Camptonville, including the school, from a devastating structure fire on Thursday evening.

Congratulations to the Cougars players and coaches for a fantastic basketball season. A special shout out to our eighth graders Elliott, Ryder, Taylor, Kaleyah, and Jesse Locatelli for giving it their all!

Last week had some amazing high points thanks to our students and staff. Our Student Leadership Council hosted a wonderful Valentines Event for their preschool and primary school friends. It was lovely to see our older and younger students interacting and having so much fun together! Likewise, the kick-off to the reading marathon was inspiring and successful thanks to Mrs. Spiers and the rest of the staff. The students participated in multiage activities and were treated to snow cones to begin the period of chilling out and reading. It’s only $10 for dinner and one card. This fundraiser is always a high energy family event, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to support our students with free range local beef and repairs to the amphitheater.

We will be holding a pre-scheduled school-wide practice lockdown drill this Wednesday at 10:45 am. School safety is our highest school priority and the topic has been on all of our staff meeting agendas this year. As you know it is a multi-layered issue and our staff and administration understands that it takes the entire school community to protect our most precious resource. I will be sending home a letter sharing what we are doing here at school while also asking parents to help be our eyes and ears outside of school. Being proactive and responsive to the needs of our students and neighbors is a common sense measure that I hope we can all come together to support.

Thank you for your cooperation and have a wonderful evening!
